Average Joe

The title is self explanatory really....My life's got nothing new. I am pretty sure those close ones of mine who view this blog will blurt out.."prithvi and blogging ??".Yes lads, I have joined the club...I basically have an opinion about every god damn thing under the sun, so decided blogging might be a decent medium to express them all...Of all the million things that are making news today as I type, I want to shed some light on this particular issue about bangalore. The capital of "KARNATAKA". The home land of kannadigas and that is where the facts end. In reality the picture is completely different. There was a survey recently and the numbers the survey showed are shocking. In bangalore, there are only 30 % kannadigas .yes, you heard me right....at this rate, It would'nt surprise me if the tamil and telugu speakers out number kannadigas..Agreed , IT has brought in massive wealth to bangalore. Agreed, The migration of people into bangalore has given it this metro, swash buckling and flamboyant look. But the fact of the matter is, when an auto driver comes and asks you " kahaan Jaana he ?? " rather than "yelige hogabeku ?? " , then it does hurt a bit. Once while traveling in BMTC, a 30's lady was shouting at an old woman because she did not understand what the old lady spoke . The problem apparently was the old woman was talking in kannada and this 30's lady wanted her to talk in hindi. Sorry mam, Excuse this woman for talking in kannada in "bangalore", in Karnataka..what a bledy pity.
The karnataka government recently started a campaign with a hope to keep kannada alive. There was a massive turn out and seems like a lot of people are concerned about this issue. The kannada movie industry often start dharnas and campaigns so as to have a major share of theaters for kannada movies !!...All this happens only in namma benguluru ladies and gentlemen. I studied in Tamil Nadu, and even though initially I was annoyed that the locals know nothing other than Tamil, Slowly I realised that the people respect their language and are keen to ensure that the language is not affected by outsiders.
But bangalore has already become an alloy and separating the elements is close to impossible now.
I could write pages and pages about this issue but guess I will stop with this for now..

  1. sad thing, local language isn't used that much... Here, in Nagpur, localites who've been in Nagpur for a few years know Marathi. And they don't mind the newcomers knowing just hindi, because they tend to learn the local lang soon too!
