The phenomenon retires

"The head wants to go on but the body can't take any more. I think of an action but I can't do it the way I want to. It's time to go...."

These were the words with which the great man brought an end to his career. Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima  is a true legend of this game. Ronaldo has been way past his prime for quite sometime now. Ever since he joined corinthians, he has been making headlines for his partying more than his goals, but such is this man's stature that with a physique which would put even ramesh powar to shame, he still attracts the interest of the very best clubs.

More than 350 career goals in club football and an astonishing return of 62 goals in 97 appearances for Brazil, Ronaldo's place in the pantheon of modern greats is secure. He is one of the only two players (the other being Zidane) to have been honoured  with the FIFA world player thrice and he is the highest goalscorer in the history of world cup – with 15. Messi has 1 goal after 2 world cups and this goes to show just how remarkable an achievement ronaldo's is. He has also had the rare distinction of having represented real madrid, Barcelona, Inter and AC Milan.

Stats apart, Its the sheer talent of this superstar that is truly astounding. With amazingly quick feet and brilliant close control, you would often find this man getting past 3-4 defenders with ease. Irrespective of the league he plays in, he is guaranteed to have a 25+ goals season. Ronaldo's season with barcelona is widely regarded as one of the greatest season for a player ever. He did have a fair share of controversies, the most notable being the 1998 world cup final and his transfer from Inter to Real, but there is absolutely no doubting that he is one of  the all time greats.

Some of the world's best defences found him unplayable and if there is any doubts about his talent, then youtube for a few of his compilations and ask yourself, just how many others could do what he does.

Adios Ronaldo....curtains to a glittering career

Average Joe

The title is self explanatory really....My life's got nothing new. I am pretty sure those close ones of mine who view this blog will blurt out.."prithvi and blogging ??".Yes lads, I have joined the club...I basically have an opinion about every god damn thing under the sun, so decided blogging might be a decent medium to express them all...Of all the million things that are making news today as I type, I want to shed some light on this particular issue about bangalore. The capital of "KARNATAKA". The home land of kannadigas and that is where the facts end. In reality the picture is completely different. There was a survey recently and the numbers the survey showed are shocking. In bangalore, there are only 30 % kannadigas .yes, you heard me right....at this rate, It would'nt surprise me if the tamil and telugu speakers out number kannadigas..Agreed , IT has brought in massive wealth to bangalore. Agreed, The migration of people into bangalore has given it this metro, swash buckling and flamboyant look. But the fact of the matter is, when an auto driver comes and asks you " kahaan Jaana he ?? " rather than "yelige hogabeku ?? " , then it does hurt a bit. Once while traveling in BMTC, a 30's lady was shouting at an old woman because she did not understand what the old lady spoke . The problem apparently was the old woman was talking in kannada and this 30's lady wanted her to talk in hindi. Sorry mam, Excuse this woman for talking in kannada in "bangalore", in Karnataka..what a bledy pity.
The karnataka government recently started a campaign with a hope to keep kannada alive. There was a massive turn out and seems like a lot of people are concerned about this issue. The kannada movie industry often start dharnas and campaigns so as to have a major share of theaters for kannada movies !!...All this happens only in namma benguluru ladies and gentlemen. I studied in Tamil Nadu, and even though initially I was annoyed that the locals know nothing other than Tamil, Slowly I realised that the people respect their language and are keen to ensure that the language is not affected by outsiders.
But bangalore has already become an alloy and separating the elements is close to impossible now.
I could write pages and pages about this issue but guess I will stop with this for now..
